Monday 13 January

Mum and Dad arrived last night, after a delightful week in the Wairarapa. They’re going to deliver the smoko to the shed this morning and then carry on north, taking Ellie and Blake with them. I’m so glad – we were feeling like horrible child-labour-exploiting parents.

Tuesday 14 January, 6.15 a.m.

Day three of shearing. We got twelve mil of rain last night that we weren’t expecting but were very happy to see (James got most of the sheep into the shed before it started, and hopefully the rest will dry out during the day). I’m leaving at seven thirty this morning to get to our most distant dairy farm, where Melissa and I are scanning 600 cows. I’ll put the scones for morning smoko into the oven as I leave, and James will come and get them at ten to eight. There’s a chicken pie and a coleslaw in the fridge.
